OBLITERATIVES - QUICK-READ INSTRUCTIONS !

This game is best played when you have a feel for the control of your
vehicle and the best way to get this is by using the training mode.

When you are in the main menu, Select the last option PRACTICE MODE OFF.
It will change to PRACTICE MODE ON. If you now play the One Player Game,
the target will not harm you. This leaves you to zoom around and get
to know the moves.

Remember, fire held down will give you a cross hair you can zoom ahead
of you and target something by pushing the joystick forward and backward.

When you let go, a torpedo will be fired at that target point. If you
don't push the target forward and press the button again instead,
the target shape will change and that means you have selected a different
weapon.

The second weapon is a missile, it can travel OVER land and take-out
land orbs and the main base bubbles!

The Story
Deep in the realms of Mev-tec, Bantzi the mad scientist laughed insanely.
His plan wasn't going well. But that didn't matter. He was mad.

Madness the disease wasn't particular about who he infected. He liked
his job and offered his service to anyone who wanted it. Two such
customers were Bob and Bill.

Arch enemies.
And utterly armed to the teeth. Three mad soles destined to collide in
a ridiculously large bang. The scene for this earth waking explosion
was the lovely islands of Mrete. An attractive open landscape no more.

The industrial giant Mev-Tec, seeking cheaper overheads and lower wage
payouts, set down on one of the Mrete islands. Hiring simple fungie
as workers.

Efficiency shot up 200% investigation pending. Bob and Bill didn't
like this. No reason. They were mad, you see. Well threats were
exchanged, and blows came to blows. They promised terrible war against
mev-tec, themselves and anyone within torpedo range. And afraid this
is where you enter this gloriously insane arena. The game is best played
with 2, as it was designed to be played.

On the one player mode, your task is much harder. You must destroy the
numbered orbs as they appear. When you have destroyed five orbs, the
main base will lower it's defences. This is shown by a gap opening
in one of the bubbles of the main site. If it is a two player game,
player one must destroy green orbs and player two, the red ones.

The overall aim is to destroy all three bubbles by firing a missile
at the gap that opens. This gap is temporary and will soon close up.
If this happens, you must destroy another set of five orbs to reopen
the gap.

The other minor detail is the number of winners. Having only one victor,
there must logically be one looser. Your job is not to be the looser.
If that means preventing the opponent from winning, so be it.

You craft is fitted as standard with projectile Weaponary. There is
also the optional Water Weaponary which is attached to your craft
before the game (See Setup Gear)

You can also fit a Slow-Mo Engine and even select the type of craft.
At the end of the day, however, there is only one winner. Will it be you?

On one player mode, you will be faced with mev-tec's laser cannon. It's
cross-hairs are indicated via your visor-comp fitted to your craft.

Avoid at all costs, the laser will destroy you on contact. There is
no time limit. There is unlimited ammunition. Two player games hold
infinate lives.

One player game allows three lives. The game has spoken, the response
is up to you!

The Controls
To manouver your vehicle, use Joystick Control as follows:
LEFT - Rotate Left
RIGHT - Rotate Right
UP - Increase Speed
DOWN - Decrease Speed
FIRE (AND HOLD) - Weapon Mode

Weapon Mode
Depending whether you have one or two weapons on your craft, you can
select either by HOLDING fire to select the first. Or, WITHOUT moving
direction, press the fire again to select the second. TO USE the
selected weapon, DO NOT release the fire button and push forward on
your joystick.

The crosshairs will extend in front of your craft. This can be
retracted by pulling back. When the fire button is released, the
weapon will be launched.

The Gear Setup
The setup screen allows you to alter the machine you take into the
Arena. The setup screen is found by selecting the SETUP BATTLE GEAR
from the menu.

Player two should press fire to activate their setup screen. When
selection icons, just click the BULB Craft Type To select type
of craft, click on the icons closest to the large display area.

You may choose from the Hovercraft or the SpeedJet.

Water Weaponary
As default, these are automatically attached. To remove them, click
the TORPEDO or MISSILE Icon. Torpedos and Missiles can only move over
water. They explode on contact with land. Used for more
sophisticated fighting.

Slow-Mo Engine
Having this icon switched on, your craft will utilise it's reverse
engines by gearing some of the forward thrust to the reverse engines.
Be warned, the turbo will reduce forward momentum by half.

Exit
Simply click the craft interior image. You will be taken back to the
main menu and the craft will be prepared for the game you select.

The Setup Screen Scenario
This simply defines the level difficulty. Without the already
difficult task of avoiding your preditor (or pray), the location of
the probes (orbs) you must destroy can be altered. Out of the six
levels, there are only two types of location for the probes:
i) SET A
i) SET B
To Select the level of difficulty, move to the scenario option on
the main menu and press the fire button. The level description
will scroll through the choices.

Customising Your Scenario
A special feature, not usually found in games is the ability to
accept a screen from an Art Package and use it as a game screen.

When playing the game, the background you are zooming around is a
typical IFF Screen saved in IFF format. You can easily load this
into DPaint, make the changes and Save. When you next play the
game, you will be playing around your very own screen. Draw
anything you wish, as long as you conform to these rules:
[] Do not change the Format
[] Do not change number of Colours
[] Do not change the Size
[] Do not change the Filename

You can:
[] Change Screen Image
[] Change Colour Palette
Make sure all original blues are used for any part in which you
wish to move. Any other colour is solid and cannot be passed.
So leave ALL blues!

An extra piece of advice is not to alter the origional copy
of the game. Make a backup and always use that for your custom
games. Just incase you disfigure the game screen completely.

Read This
If you have not seen this Text Reader before it's because it
isn't a text reader. It's a text & graphic reader and as such,
a very rare piece of software. Not many around. None that I can
think of. You can get the Editor direct from DN. See end of this
manual for details on how to purchase it!

I've written a lot more games, you'll have to look around and find
them as well. With the software scene so volitile, everytime I say
where you can get it from, it moves! or disappears! Weird things
jump up and swallow them whole. Just trust me and look out for the
name LEE BAMBER, I'm quite proud of it you know. Done some really
good stuff this guy has. Almost a god by his standards. He also
claims infinate modesty.

Digital Ninja is the Pseudo by which Lee Bamber writes as well,
so lookout for that!

Tech Specs
The file for the DPaint Background is called "Battleground-1.IFF".
If you want to keep the existing screens and have more, you can add
one to the game by creating the next file in the sequence,
i.e: Battleground-4.IFF Battleground-5.IFF Battleground-6.IFF
Battleground-7.IFF - If you create file 7, the game will recognise
it and put it in with the rest of the selection.

You are only limited by the amount of disk space! Do not attempt
to extract AMOS Eyes Viewer from it's environment. It will not
run without it's related files. It is also quite useless to you
unless you have the Editor.

The AMOS Eyes Editor
The AMOS Eyes Editor costs Six Pounds Sterling plus Postage. The
Editor includes the latest AMOS Eyes Viewer, Editor, Front Maker
program, Full documentation on both the Editor and the Viewer.
A FREE Game, 'Placebo Space Invaders'. Plus our very own Digital
Ninja Info Sheet. The Editor itself can create .DOC files which
the viewer can load and display in a number of ways. If you get
hold of more games written by Digital Ninja, you'll see what I
mean. If you want it, send a cheque or postal order for SIX
POUNDS STERLING plus POSTAGE:

If you just want the Digital Ninja Info Sheet, that's fine. Just
remember to write down that you want one and don't forget the
self Stamped Addressed Envelope(SSAE). Without that, I'm afraid
you won't get one. The Info Sheet briefly describes what we are
doing at the moment, developments to look out for in the future
and our FSL List. The list contains the names and descriptions
of all the software we have written to date. Named FSL to
breviate 'Freeware, Shareware and Licenceware'.

Bye for now. Be Happy!
