 GREENIES is a first person perspective 3D maze-romp *
type-of-affair for up to three players. You can *
either play a knight in a series of quests against *
the GREENIES, or have a multi-player fight to the *
death as the green guys themselves. The action takes*
place in a bizarre arcane maze arena filled with *
modern-day weapons of destruction and the odd magic *
potion. You simply wander around the maze trying to *
ensure your opponents have a very bad day. *
                                                     *
      --------------------------------------- *

                                                     *
When GREENIES loads you will be presented with the *
game options screen which is completely controlled *
by a point-and-click interface. The options for each*
player are shown by three pairs of icons. The left- *
most of these icon shows a picture of the character *
currently selected for that player. The right icon *
switches between human control (a brain) and *
 computer control (a chip). *
                                                     *
Selection can be made via a mouse in port 1 or a *
joystick in port 2. You may choose combinations of *
 the following characters: *
                                                     *
THE OGRE - By far the strongest of the characters *
but slow and awkward. The Ogre can carry up to three*
 items. *
                                                     *
THE TROLL - Not as strong as the Ogre, but still *
fairly tough and also much quicker than its larger *
cousin. The Troll can only carry two items at once. *
                                                     *
THE GOBLIN - The weakest of all, but quick and also *
the most adept at using items. The Goblin can carry *
up to four items at once. *
                                                     *
THE KNIGHT - Quick on his feet and well armed, but *
not very tough. The Knight can carry up to two items*
 at once. *
                                                     *
Other icons on the options screen... *
                                                     *
CHEST ICON - Toggles between the QUEST game and the *
 free-for-all. *
                                                     *
In the QUEST game you play the Knight in a series of*
25 structured levels against the combined effort of *
the GREENIES. In each level you must find and escape*
with 2 chests hidden within the maze in order to *
progress to the next level. *
                                                     *
In the free-for-all you play one of the GREENIES in *
a fight to the death against the other players. *
                                                     *
CLOCK ICON - If the QUEST game is selected this *
shows the set time limit for the current level. *
Otherwise it allows you to set your own time limit *
for the free-for-all, at the end of which the player*
in the best health wins. *
                                                     *
MAP ICON - Provides the characters with an automatic*
map which can be displayed during play. *
                                                     *

                                                     *
The game screen is split into three windows showing *
the view for each character in the maze. *
                                                     *
HEALTH BAR - The colour indicates any magical *
effects currently influencing your character. *
                                                     *
EQUIPMENT ROSTER - The item currently selected is *
indicated by the cursor. The Combat weapon currently*
in use by the character is indicated by the icon to *
 the left. *
                                                     *
COMPASS - The arrow in the bottom left of each *
characters window indicates the direction of travel *
with respect to the map. *
                                                     *
GREEN WARNING ARROW - A green arrow in the bottom *
right of a players window warns of an opponent *
directly in their line of sight. *
                                                     *
RED WARNING ARROW - A red arrow in the bottom right *
of a players window warns of one of your own mines *
directly in front of their character. *
                                                     *

                                                     *
 The Maze... *
                                                     *
Within the maze there are four types of doors, each *
of which may only be used by certain characters: *
                                                     *
DRAINAGE PIPES - May only be used by the Goblin. *
                                                     *
DOORS - May only be used by the Goblin, the Troll *
 and the Knight. *
                                                     *
PORTCULLIS - May be used by the Troll and the Ogre. *
                                                     *
EXITS - May only be used by the Knight. *
                                                     *
Other things encountered in Maze... *
                                                     *
THE TOILET - Certain experiences in life are too *
much for even an ogre. Putting your character under *
too much stress can result in a soiled loin cloth *
and a loss of health. Fortunately the maze is *
equipped with its own en suite facilities where *
characters may relieve themselves and regain lost *
 health. *
                                                     *
 DRONES - Semi-animate creatures which resemble *
normal characters. Harmless, but can get the way *
sometimes. Can only be destroyed by explosions. *
                                                     *
       --------------------------------------- *
                                                     *
 Items... *
                                                     *
GRENADES - A ranged weapon, only capable of minor *
damage. Grenades may be thrown at any time, except *
in combat. Grenades may also be thrown through *
 portcullis. *
                                                     *
MINES - Planted directly in front of your character,*
they explode as soon as the area is crossed, causing*
 minor damage. *
                                                     *
TNT - May be used as a very effective key on doors *
your character cannot normally use. *
                                                     *
MISSILES - In conjunction with the launcher, this is*
the most powerful of the ranged weapons. Missiles *
have the added ability to lock on and persue targets*
 down adjacent corridors. *
                                                     *
LAUNCHER - Fires the above. *
                                                     *
BOMBS - The most destructive of all the weapons *
found in the maze. Completely destroys an area of *
the maze and everything within it. Set and run. *
                                                     *
BASEBALL BATS - Increases the strength of weaker *
characters in combat. May also be used to hit *
grenades back to their unsuspecting owners. *
                                                     *
CHAINSAWS - Increases the damage caused by most *
 characters in combat. *
                                                     *
POTIONS - A little magic can be very useful, but be *
warned, some of them have passed their sell-by *
 dates. *
                                                     *
SPEED - (Yellow) Allows your character to move *
super-fast for a limited amount of time. *
                                                     *
INVISIBILITY - (Clear) Make your character *
invisible for a limited amount of time. *
                                                     *
HEALING - (Green) Heal some of your characters *
     damage. *
                                                     *
      --------------------------------------- *
                                                     *
 Epilogue... *
                                                     *
 * If you find it difficult to find your way around *
the maze, turn the automatic mapping option on. *
Perhaps the most confusing part of perceiving where *
you are is in realising that everything you can see *
is in front of you. So if you see a turning to the *
left you must move forward until you can no longer *
see it and then turn down it. Learn to find your way*
around with friends playing or on the QUEST games. *
The early levels are made very easy just for this *
 purpose. *
                                                     *
 * If you find yourself stuck on a Quest, spend a *
turn scouting with the map function on and the map *
will remain for subsequent turns. *
                                                     *
 * Keep one eye on the other players windows to avoid*
 nasty surprises. *
                                                     *
 * Missiles may be used to clear mines. *
                                                     *
 * Try to avoid getting too close to fuses or *
 explosions. *
                                                     *
