Q:Whiz! Player is Public Domain.  However, the quiz files 
included on this version of Q:Whiz! Player may be 
copyrighted.  When playing the game, select the "ABOUT" 
button for further details.

Q:Whiz! Player has been thoroughly tested and should give 
you endless hours of problem-free play.  However, it is 
used at your own risk and we cannot be held responsible 
for any damage to equipment, loss of data, etc which could 
arise from it's use.

3. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
========================
Q:Whiz! Player should work on any Amiga which uses Workbench 
2.0 or higher and has at least 1 Meg of RAM.

If you only have 1 Meg of RAM, you may have to disable  
additional drives, if you have a number attached, as the 
game will need virtually every scrap of memory it can get 
it's grubby hands on.  If you forget to disable additional 
drives, a message will be shown during the program's 
initialization telling you to turn them off and then to 
reboot your machine , if it is necessary.  You will also 
have to ensure that this is the only program you have 
running because of the amount of memory is consumes.

4. GAME INSTRUCTIONS
====================
Once the MAIN MENU is displayed, you are given these 
choices:

PLAY QUIZ
PICK QUIZ
OPTIONS
ABOUT

Choose what you require by moving the mouse pointer over the 
appropriate button and pressing the left mouse button.

If you want to quit the game, move the mouse pointer to the 
top-right of the screen and press the left mouse button and 
you will be returned to the Workbench screen.

PLAY QUIZ
=========
This will start a new game.  If there is no quiz data 
currently resident in memory, you will be sent to the 
"PICK QUIZ" section first in order to select a file to load 
in.

PICK QUIZ
=========
The Player disk will be read and all available quiz files 
will be displayed.  To choose a file, either place the mouse 
pointer over the box containing the quiz name you want and 
pressing the left mouse button, or by pressing key 1 - 8 
corresponding to the quiz you want.

The quiz will then be loaded into memory and the number of 
questions it contains will be displayed.

If you are happy with this choice, place the mouse pointer 
over the "OK" button and press the left mouse button to be 
returned to the MAIN MENU.

If you want to choose another quiz file, place the mouse 
pointer over the "READ DISK" button and press the left mouse 
button.

If you have another Player disk available and want to get a 
quiz from that, this can be inserted and then read.
 
Please ensure that the disk drive light is out before you 
swap disks and also wait for the light to go out before 
selecting the "READ DISK" button.

Please note that only one Player disk should be in any of 
your drives at any one time otherwise the quiz system may 
get confused!

OPTIONS
=======
Enables you to change some of the more important settings to 
your own preferences.  

MUSIC
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "MUSIC" and press the left mouse button to toggle 
the music on / off.

SOUND FX
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "SOUND FX" and press the left mouse button to 
toggle the sound fx on / off.

QUESTION SELECT MODE
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "IN ORDER" and press the left mouse button to 
change the question select mode to "IN ORDER".

Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "RANDOM" and press the left mouse button to change 
the question select mode to "RANDOM".

"IN ORDER" - questions are asked in sequential order from 
the first question number in the quiz to the last question 
number in the quiz.

"AT RANDOM" - questions are selected at random from the 
quiz.  This mode has been included as some quiz files may 
contain groups of questions on a specific topic i.e. 10 on 
sport, 10 on films etc., and these can be mixed up if 
desired.

Each time a question is selected, the number is stored so 
that it will not be used again during the current game.

REVEAL ANSWER
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "REVEAL ANSWER" and press the left mouse button to 
have the answer revealed if it is not given by you.

QUIZ TIMER
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "QUIZ TIMER" and press the left mouse button to 
toggle the quiz timer on / off.

Change the quiz timer value by placing the mouse pointer 
over the buttons labelled < and > to the right of the quiz 
timer box and pressing the left mouse button.  The timer 
will be changed in units of 1 second.  To change the timer 
in units of 1 minute, press the right mouse button instead.

Values range from 00:00:01 - 99:59:59.

QUESTION TIMER
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "QUESTION TIMER" and press the left mouse button to 
toggle the question timer on / off.

Change the question timer value by placing the mouse pointer 
over the buttons labelled < and > to the right of the 
question timer box and pressing the left mouse button.  The 
timer will be changed in units of 1 second.  To change the 
timer in units of 1 minute, press the right mouse button 
instead.

Values range from 00:00:01 - 99:59:59.

QUESTION FX IN / OUT
====================
Questions are copied and removed from the screen a bit at a 
time using a screen copy fx.  These fx can be removed to 
speed up play.  If the fx-in is turned off, the quiz is 
slightly harder as there is less time to read each 
question.

QUESTION FX IN
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "QUESTION FX IN" and press the left mouse button to 
toggle the question fx-in on / off.

QUESTION FX OUT
Place the mouse pointer over the box to the right of the one 
labelled "QUESTION FX OUT" and press the left mouse button 
to toggle the question fx-out on / off.

=====
Shows various bits of "useful" information.

Place the mouse pointer over the "OK" button and press the 
left mouse button to return to the MAIN MENU.

5. PLAYING A QUIZ
=================
The quiz works as follows:

A question is selected and then copied to the screen.  The 
program now waits for one of the following to happen:

Player makes a choice
Question timer runs out
Quiz timer runs out
Quit button selected

PLAYER MAKES A CHOICE
A choice is made by pressing keys "1" to "4" or by placing 
the mouse pointer over the appropriate button and pressing 
the left mouse button.

If the choice was the correct one, points are added and the 
next question is selected and shown.

If the choice was the wrong one, points are deducted 

QUESTION TIMER RUNS OUT
If while making a choice, the question timer runs out, the 
program treats it as being given a wrong answer.  

QUIZ TIMER RUNS OUT
If (when?) the quiz timer runs out, the current game is over 
and the final score is shown.

"QUIT" BUTTON SELECTED
The current game will also finish if "QUIT" is selected.

Questions are selected and shown until one of the following 
happens:

All questions in the quiz have been asked
The quiz timer runs out (if on)
The "QUIT" button is selected

When one of these conditions has been met, the player's 
final score will be shown.  Press the left mouse button to 
return to the MAIN MENU.

QUIT
====
Activated by pressing <Esc> or by placing the mouse pointer 
over the button labelled "QUIT" and pressing the left mouse 
button.

The current quiz is aborted and the final score is shown.  
Press the left mouse button to return to the MAIN MENU.

"QUIT" can only be selected when the game is waiting for a 
choice to a question to be made.

50 questions on the first (and best?) of the Alien films.

Blade Runner (BRDC-92)
100 questions on the cult movie: Blade Runner, the Directors 
Cut - 1992.

Doctor Who
100 questions covering the classic Doctor Who films and TV 
shows.

Red Dwarf
100 questions on the popular Red Dwarf television series.

Star Wars
50 questions covering the Star Wars trilogy of films and 
it's associated universe.

The X-Files (Season Two)
100 questions on the second series of the cult TV programme.

Please note these quiz files are (C)1996 Paul Nordovics and 
Mike Richmond and cannot be distributed without our 
permission.  This of course means that this version of 
Q:Whiz! - Player cannot be distributed without our 
permission either.
