Please note if you are with O2 they are ringing from an 020 number (London, UK) which when I checked it against an online database does *NOT* come up as anything related to O2
I checked the Official O2 Number and it said “O2 Customer Services” on the number checking website, so please always check the number to make sure it is legitimate owned by the company who is calling you before giving any personal information over the phone
They ring you up trying to say your SIM Card needs replacing, and will go through details which can easily be obtained from the Councils Electoral Roll by usually paying them a small charge, these details include your Name, Full Address, Phone Numbers
Once they have confirmed this information (which makes them look trustworthy) they will say you need a New SIM Card because the one in your phone is faulty (believe me it is NOT FAULTY) this is part of a SCAM to get you to sign up for a new contract
It has happened to my Dad yesterday and thankfully he told me today, so I checked his online account and ssaw 2 more phone numbers on it which were not his Normal Number
So I rang them immediately and they confirmed it was a SCAM and cancelled these 2 other numbers off his account, and have also temporarily blocked access to online account so that no scammer can login (I have also changed the password on it, before I rang them, as well just in case they do try to access my Dads online account
Please be safe and if you do not trust the caller, ask for a Security Code, Cancel the Call, and if you can use another phone to ring back on, to verify the call is legitimate
These Scammers are using pretty clever tactics now to open up new accounts in the targets name, and in the case of my Dad they ordered a New iPhone Pro under his name, which is now cancelled off, Please be safe, and if you think you have been Scammed call Action Fraud AND your phone provider
Please do not fall for these Scams I put these up here to protect you from them, always question everything if someone rings you “out of the blue” never take their word for anything, always double and triple check everything
UPDATE: Luckily I have managed to CANCEL the 2 phone numbers they setup on my Dads account, and they have recovered the phone which was ordered before it was sent to a completely different address to my Dads
PLEASE STAY SAFE OUT THERE
